TIES: How to check the lining in a tie?

Tie linings are among the most important things to watch out for while buying a tie. Good quality lining imparts proper shape and bulk to the tie, enabling it to lie flat on the chest. As a rule you should select a tie which has a lining made of wool, as it is the best among tie lining materials. You can also go for ties which have a lining made of from other materials, provided the lining has a high percentage of wool in it. To check the lining, just open the back of the tie to see the high quality lining as a series of gold bars. This series of gold bars gives the tie its bulk.

The use of accessories to anchor attention around the face has been an age old practice - be it using jewelry or a piece of scarf. Brightly colored cotton scarves with paisley patterns are known to draw attention to the face. Wear it in the Kelly style and see the magic around the face. If you want a subtle look, then you can consider softer colors like pink. Soft scarves in rayon, chiffon or silk, will allow you to play with the drape of the scarf within the neck area. Such scarves look good with collars and scooped or v-necklines. If you want to feel taller, then a long scarf draped around the neck, flowing down the back, will be suitable. With scarves available in a variety of sizes and fabrics, you can use a few tricks of folding, twisting or tying. Basic shapes for scarves include the square and the rectangle, also known as the oblong. A shawl or cape can also be used to define curvature. Even a faux fur stole or jacket in fluffy chocolate or cream will work wonders.

POCKET SQUARES: Can pocket squares be hand washed?
While most pocket squares can be hand washed, for best effects it makes sense to dry clean them. This is especially true for silk pocket squares, since dry cleaning retains the original gloss and texture of the fabric. If you choose hand washing, care should be taken that wrong or excessively harsh detergents are not being used. Pocket squares should only be washed in cold water. Additionally, gentle rubbing is a must. A definite ‘no-no’ is wringing the square to remove any excess water. After just a gentle squeeze, the pocket square can be hung out to dry. Even when drying, it is preferable if the pocket square is kept in the shade. The reason being, exposure to direct sun for long periods of time could result in discoloration and fading. Generally, linen and cotton pocket squares can be more easily hand-washed as compared to silk ones. Some people follow the practice of blotting some of the dampness from a washed pocket square with a dry cloth before hanging the square out to dry. Also there is no need to wash the entire pocket square when only a small portion is dirty. All pocket squares can be spot washed by rubbing a wet cloth on the dirty area until the stain disappears. This area can then be dried again by re-rubbing with a dry cloth this time.
