What to consider while renting a tuxedo?

Always the first choice for a black tie occasion, a tuxedo is elegant and gives you the authoritative look of a person who is confident of himself. Since the tuxedo is not worn very often, it can be rented for any special occasion from various formalwear shops. A tuxedo can be either single breasted or double breasted with the classic tuxedo featuring a shawl collar. To get the perfect look, you need to take care of certain things while renting a tuxedo.

A tuxedo appears more appealing and attractive if worn along with a bow tie. If you plan to sport a single breasted tuxedo, you can try the classic look with the shawl collar whereas the double breasted tuxedos are usually worn with a peak lapel collar. It is always preferable for taller men to wear double breasted tuxedo. Indoor parties and functions should be attended in dark colored tuxedos such as black or dark blue. For outdoor events, you can experiment with white tuxedos.

Pay special attention to the color of the tuxedo trousers while renting them; see that they match the color of your tuxedo et. To add style to your tuxedo look, you can rent one which features a single silk stripe down each outside seam, making sure that they don’t sport a turned up hem.

For tuxedo shirts, you could go for a white tuxedo shirt (contrast color) with cuffs turned up for flattering effect. A black cummerbund featuring pleats turned outside should cover the overlap of the shirt and trouser.

How to tie a Bow Tie?

Firs the bow tie is placed around the neck such that the right end is longer than the left end. The left end is then slipped under the right end, and the right end is crossed over the left. Next, the right end is bought up and under the loop. This is followed by doubling the left end over itself, so as to form the base loop of the bow tie. Then the right loop is bought over the center of the loop that is just formed. Now comes the tough part - keeping everything in place and double ending the right loop back on itself, while pushing it through the loop behind the bow tie. The bow tie is finally adjusted by tugging its ends and straightening its center knots.

How to tie a Cravat Tie?

First place the cravat around your neck in such a way that the right end is longer than the left end. Then cross the longer end over the shorter to your left, and take the longer end back to your right underneath the shorter end. Now bring the longer end to the left over the shorter end, while keeping it over the loop. This is when the longer end is taken up through the neck loop. Once this is done, you have two choices - to go in for a “traditional” look or for a “scrunch” look. For a “traditional” look, fold down the longer end over the knot, then adjust the fit using the shorter end, and follow it by fixing the top end in place with a cravat pin. To create a “scrunch” tie, bring the longer end down through the knot loop, and adjust the fit with the shorter end. Do ensure though that the knot remains as loose as appropriate, so as to get the best “scrunch” effect.
